Technical diving in Bonaire is entering an exciting new chapter. Buddy Dive Resort is proud to announce Jose Espinosa as the new Tek Supervisor of Buddy Dive Tek, bringing his extensive technical diving experience, teaching background, and unique medical knowledge to the role.
Jose joined Buddy Dive Resort in November 2023 and has since become an important part of the technical diving team, helping divers develop their skills while continuing to advance his own training and qualifications.
From surgeon to technical diving instructor
Jose’s path to professional diving is anything but ordinary. His diving journey began in Colombia in 2019 while he was working as a general surgeon in Bogotá.
After discovering a passion for diving, he progressed from recreational diving into technical diving, completing sidemount and Tec 40, Tec 45 and Tec 50 in Roatán, Honduras. He later continued his training in Mexico, where he earned his full cave certification.
In 2022, Jose made the decision to leave his medical career and pursue diving professionally. After becoming an instructor and working in Honduras, he joined Buddy Dive Resort in Bonaire, where he continued to expand his technical diving experience.
His qualifications now include Tec 50 Trimix, Tec 65 and full Trimix, as well as an open-circuit dive to 100 meters. More recently, he became a Mod 1 Helitrox CCR diver on the ChOptima.
Passion for technical diving and education
Jose’s medical background gives him a distinctive perspective on technical diving, particularly when it comes to physiology, science, and dive preparation.

As Tek Supervisor, Jose is looking forward to helping grow Buddy Dive Tek and supporting technical divers who come to Bonaire to expand their skills and explore deeper and more challenging environments. With Jose’s combination of medical expertise, technical diving experience, and passion for teaching, Buddy Dive Tek is well positioned for an exciting future.
