The Dive Academy:
The Dive Academy is led by Platinum Course Director Rosie Alvelais and a dedicated team of IDC Staff Instructors. Rosie has been staffing IDCs since 2022, and is a Course Director since 2024. In 2026, she joined the Buddy Dive team and is now teaching in the blue waters of Bonaire! She is also a strong supporter of the Reef Renewal project on Bonaire, and you’ll see this commitment reflected in the IDC, with a focus on environmental care, excellent buoyancy, and trim. In addition, our IDC offers tec tryouts if you’re interested and time allows!
Vision and Team:
Our vision for the IDC is rooted in the belief that only the best instructors can train competent divers. Recognizing the perilous state of the underwater world, we emphasize the importance of supporting it. During the IDC, we equip you with the tools to train entry-level divers with good buoyancy and trim.
The Buddy IDC goes beyond the minimal requirements set by PADI. Therefore, we can focus on control techniques that enhance student diver safety. Additionally, these techniques improve your efficiency in teaching.
We provide more hands-on training sessions and practical workshops. As a result, you are better prepared for your career as a PADI instructor. In the IDC, our goal is to prepare you to teach, not just to pass the IE. Consequently, with this skill set, the IE becomes a formality. As part of your professional development, upon successful completion of the eLearning portion of the program, candidates will receive a complimentary Human Factors in Diving Essentials course. This additional training explores the human elements that influence diving safety, decision-making, communication, and performance. For instructors, understanding Human Factors provides valuable insight into how stress, workload, situational awareness, teamwork, and individual behavior can affect diver performance. By applying these principles, you’ll be better equipped to identify potential challenges, improve risk management, create stronger learning environments, and support your students in becoming safer and more confident divers.
