When most people think of Bonaire, one thing comes to mind first: diving. And while our island is undeniably a diver’s dream, there’s so much more waiting above the surface. Whether you’re traveling with non-divers, taking a surface interval day, or just looking to discover new sides of the island, Bonaire offers a range of activities!
Here are some of our favorite ways to explore Bonaire beyond diving.
1. Hit the Water – Above It
Diving isn’t the only way to enjoy Bonaire’s clear blue waters. In fact, we even offer an activity package for non-divers containing water-related activities.
- Windsurfing at Lac Bay
The steady trade winds and shallow, warm waters of Lac Bay make it a world-renowned spot for windsurfing. Whether you’re a beginner or a pro, the conditions are perfect year-round. At Buddy Dive, we also offer windsurfing lessons. - Kitesurfing at Atlantis Beach
Adrenaline seekers will love kitesurfing on Bonaire’s southwest coast. The constant winds and turquoise waters, with dolphins and turtles, make this island a true paradise for kitesurfers. Lessons are available, and the views are unbeatable. Our Dive Shop can help you with arranging some lessons. - Kayaking in the Mangroves
Paddle through the lush mangroves and discover an entirely different ecosystem. It’s peaceful, educational, and full of wildlife! We have guided trips available for you!

2. Discover Bonaire’s National Parks
- Washington Slagbaai National Park
For a rugged adventure, head north to explore this expansive national park. Go hiking, spot flamingos and other bird species, or take a 4×4 ride through stunning landscapes. Don’t miss the viewpoint at Brandaris—the highest peak on the island—for panoramic views. - Klein Bonaire
This uninhabited island just off the coast is perfect for beach picnics, snorkeling, or a relaxing swim. Water taxis run daily, making it an easy escape from the main island.

3. Explore Local Culture & History
- Rincon Village
Step back in time with a visit to Bonaire’s oldest village. Check out the local distillery at Cadushy for a taste of cactus liqueur and learn about the island’s heritage at the nearby cultural museums. - Slave huts
One of Bonaire’s most powerful historical sites is the row of tiny, bright-white and red slave huts. Built in 1850, these huts once sheltered enslaved workers who harvested salt – an important part of the island’s past. Today, you can walk among them and read the storyboards.

4. Sunset Magic & Stargazing
Cap off the day with a sunset sail or find a quiet beach spot to watch the stars. With minimal light pollution, Bonaire’s night skies are spectacular.
Tip: At Ingridiënts Restaurant, you can enjoy a four-course menu while taking in the beautiful sunset of Bonaire. Are you rather on the water when watching the sunset? Book a sunset cruise with us.

5. Cave Exploration
Cave Exploration offers a thrilling adventure, revealing stunning formations and hidden freshwater pools. Here at Buddy Dive, we offer you a unique opportunity to explore these ancient wonders with their majestic stalactites and stalagmites. Guided tours take you through both dry and wet caves, with the possibility to snorkel as well!
