Buddy Dive Thru the Lens is an underwater photography week with many (free) options for new underwater photographers to develop their skills! The week starts with the PADI Underwater photography specialty but also offers fun demos, clinics, presentations, and photography-dedicated boat dives. I will be a week you will remember forever!
Underwater photography on Bonaire
Bonaire has been chosen as the Caribbean’s best underwater photography destination in PADI’s Scuba Diving Readers Choice Awards. With an average of 30 m / 100 ft visibility, beautiful reefs, abundant marine life, and fantastic diving conditions, you couldn’t ask for a better place to improve your skills. How to book for Buddy Dive thru the Lens
You can join Buddy Dive Thru the Lens by booking our Drive & Dive shore or boat diving package for August 24 – 31, mentioning you will join the event. Activities are free, except for the PADI Underwater Photography Specialty, boat dives, when not prepaid, and the use of camera equipment.
Our Drive & Dive (6-boat dive) package includes:
* 7 nights in selected accommodation
* 7 days rental vehicle
* 6 days of unlimited shore diving (+ optional 6 boat dives)
* Free Nitrox Upgrade
* American-style breakfast daily
* Free Wifi
* Airport transfers
Not included:
- Equipment rental (including camera)

Activities
During the event, our photo guru Guillermo will take you on a true photography adventure! Various activities will be offered throughout the week, but there is also time for you to practice and enjoy the beautiful dive sites of Bonaire with your buddy.
The clinics, workshops, presentations, and dives will be fun for both divers new to underwater photography as well as underwater photographers looking to expand their knowledge and skills.
Please note that there may be an extra charge for boat dives and the PADI Underwater Photography specialty when these are not included in your diving package.
PADI Underwater Photography Specialty
During the PADI Digital Underwater Photographer course, you’ll learn all the ins and outs of taking that perfect shot! You’ll surface with images you’ll be proud of sharing with others. Avoid beginner mistakes and get all the best with tips from the pros. Learn how to use underwater lights (strobes), how to avoid backscatter, and enhance the colors of your images.
PHOTOGRAPHY BUOYANCY CLINIC
When you’re busy getting that perfect shot of that seahorse you just found, you sometimes forget what’s going on around you. That’s why we start the week with a buoyancy clinic, especially for underwater photographers.
Good buoyancy control is very important for all divers but even more for underwater photographers. It is not easy to take a great picture and not accidentally touch something in your surrounding. So make sure to follow this clinic so you can get the best shot and keep the reefs untouched at the same time. You will benefit from this clinic in all of your dives.
WORKSHOPS
In the workshops, experienced underwater photographers teach you everything about various interesting topics. There will be workshops for underwater macro photography, underwater model photography, underwater night photography and more!
You will get hands-on tips and tricks from photo pro Guillermo that you can apply immediately in your next photo dive!
During this week you will get the chance to earn your PADI Underwater photography specialty! Make sure to add the PADI Underwater Photography specialty to your package to avoid extra charges after arrival.
BOAT DIVES
Join the photography dedicated boat dives. Our photo pros will take you to the best dive sites where you can go all out and take great shots with like-minded underwater photographers.
This is a great opportunity to practice your learned skills. Take wide-angle pictures of the Hilma Hooker, enjoy the best lighting on the Northside of Klein Bonaire and get all the time in the world to take pictures without having to adjust to the pace of other divers.
Make sure to add boat dives to your diving package to avoid extra charges after arrival.
PRESENTATIONS
In the evening, drop by for educational and fun presentations by renowned underwater photographers. They will tell you about their experiences and will share their best tips and tricks with you while you enjoy a drink! It is a great way to end the day and chat with your fellow underwater photography buddies.
These presentations will leave you with lots of inspiration and new ideas that you get to perform immediately the next day. You really don’t want to miss this!

Hello there! My name is Guillermo, the photo pro at Buddy Dive, originally from the beautiful Archipelago Los Roques, in Venezuela.
My adventure into underwater photography began with curiosity. I find it interesting how the photographer can stop a moment in time and nature with a single push of a button, and show the rest of the world how he saw that moment thru the lens.
I cannot lie, my journey into photography was super challenging, often frustrating, and eventually gratifying. Having finally reached that amazing moment where “I got it”, capturing the image that I wanted and envisioned.
Helping people develop their awareness of the underwater world and their abilities to capture underwater memories by improving their photography skills is what I love doing best!
That is why I invite all underwater photo enthusiasts to come to Buddy Dive Resort and join us for a week of photographic fun.
